Our hygienist will start your appointment with a careful cleaning to remove plaque and tartar buildup. Next, they'll focus on your gumline to clean below the gum surface and remove any bacteria that could be causing inflammation. Since consistency is key for all your oral health, your hygienist will also give you tips and techniques for the best at-home care.
After you have finished with your hygienist, Dr. Mehta will conduct a comprehensive examination to assess the health of your gums and teeth. He’ll also confer with your hygienist to develop a treatment plan that addresses your unique needs, if necessary. By combining the expertise of our dental team, we can help you achieve and maintain excellent periodontal health!
How often do I need periodontal maintenance?
The frequency of your check-ups will depend on the severity of your gum disease, your overall oral health, and how well you manage your oral hygiene at home. Generally, patients with mild to moderate gum disease need cleanings every three to four months. For those with more severe disease, more frequent appointments will be needed.
How long can I expect my appointment to take?
The length of your appointment can vary, but it typically takes about an hour. However, if your gum disease is more advanced, your appointment may take longer. Our team will be able to give you a more accurate estimate when you book your appointment.
